Atlas Copco Air compressor Oring Main Types and Application Locations

O-type Sealing Ring

The most widely used, often found in cylinder covers, valve covers, oil pipe joints, etc.

Features: Simple structure, low cost, achieves sealing through its own elastic deformation, compatible with various sealing surfaces, resistant to oil, and capable of withstanding a certain pressure (usually ≤ 30 MPa).

Cup-shaped Sealing Ring (such as U-shaped, V-shaped, Y-shaped)

Mostly used for reciprocating motion components, such as between the piston and cylinder of piston-type air compressors, or between the piston rod and cylinder cover.

Features: The lip closely adheres to the sealing surface, the sealing effect improves with pressure increase, suitable for dynamic sealing scenarios, and has good wear resistance.

Composite Sealing Ring

Composed of rubber and materials such as metal and plastic (such as Stroff, Gland Ring), commonly used in the shaft ends of high-pressure screw-type air compressors and oil separators, etc.

Features: Combines elastic sealing and rigid support, resistant to high pressure (up to 100 MPa or more), resistant to extrusion, suitable for high-speed rotation or reciprocating motion sealing.

Frame Oil Seal

Atlas Copco Air compressor Oring is mainly used for rotating shaft sealing (such as crankshaft, motor shaft), preventing lubricating oil leakage.

Features: Contains a metal frame to enhance rigidity, the lip is tightened by a spring, suitable for rotating conditions, good dustproof effect.

Common Materials and Characteristics

Nitrile Rubber (NBR): Good oil resistance, suitable for temperatures -20℃~120℃, is the most commonly used sealing ring material in air compressors, suitable for most oil-lubricated systems.

Fluororubber (FKM): Resistant to high and low temperatures (-20℃~200℃), resistant to chemical corrosion, suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature or contact with special media (such as the high-temperature oil area of screw machines).

Silicone Rubber (VMQ): Wide temperature range (-60℃~200℃), but poor oil resistance, mostly used for low-temperature or oil-free air compressors' sealing.

Polyurethane (PU): Excellent wear resistance, suitable for reciprocating motion sealing (such as piston sealing), temperature range -30℃~80℃.
