Working principle of Atlas Copco Cooler:
Most cooled air compressors have a high-capacity fan that will force air through the baffle and out of the cabinet, removing a lot of heat from the lubricant. These fans have the added benefit of removing heat from all components within the enclosure, and there is often a lot of engineering involved in the design of the coolers, fans, and the enclosure itself to ensure airflow is optimized for heat removal.
These coolers must be cleaned and maintained to ensure proper heat transfer. When the outer surfaces of these coolers collect excess dust or other debris from the air forced through them, heat transfer can be disrupted, causing oil temperatures to rise. Simply blowing clean air through the cooler – and removing this build-up – can have a huge impact on the operating temperature of the air compressor. Internally, the cooler can collect varnish or sludge, which can build up on the cooler walls and insulate the lubricant from the inner cooler walls of the pipes. This can usually be removed with a detergent solvent additive, or the cooler can be removed with a chemical bath and cleaned.
