The core function of the pressure sensor in Atlas Copco air compressors
The pressure sensor senses the pressure changes in the pipeline or container, converting the physical pressure signal into an electrical signal (such as 4-20mA current signal or 0-10V voltage signal), and transmits it to the control system of the compressor (such as PLC) to achieve the following functions:
Real-time monitoring of key parameters such as exhaust pressure, intake pressure, and oil-gas separator pressure, ensuring the system operates within the set pressure range;
Providing feedback signals for the loading/unloading and pressure regulation of the unit, maintaining stable output pressure;
Triggering protection mechanisms (such as shutdown or alarm) when the pressure exceeds the safety range, preventing equipment from operating under excessive pressure.
Types and Installation Locations
Depending on the monitoring object, common types and installation locations include:
Exhaust pressure sensor: Installed at the exhaust port of the compressor or the inlet of the storage tank, monitoring the output pressure;
Oil-gas separator pressure sensor: Installed in the oil-gas separator chamber, monitoring the internal pressure;
Intake pressure sensor: Installed at the front end of the intake valve, monitoring the intake air pressure;
Cooling water pressure sensor (water-cooled models): Monitoring the pressure status of the cooling water circuit.
Design and Performance Characteristics
Using high-precision sensing elements (such as piezoelectric or capacitive), with high measurement accuracy (typically with an error of ≤ ±0.5%), fast response speed, ensuring the real-time nature of pressure data;
The housing and components in contact with the medium are made of high-pressure-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials (such as stainless steel), suitable for the oil-gas environment and pressure range inside the compressor (usually capable of withstanding 0-1.6MPa or higher pressure);
Having good anti-interference ability, able to work stably in the vibration and electromagnetic environment of the compressor operation;
Some models have temperature compensation function, reducing the impact of environmental temperature changes on measurement accuracy.
